Your doctor may recommend an eyelid biopsy if you have noticed a growth or lesion in this area. Common eyelid growths or lesions include cysts, moles, skin tags and papillomas. The goal of a biopsy is to determine the nature of the growth and, if needed, to outline the next steps in treatment.
An eyelid biopsy is quick, and our team will let you know what to expect during the procedure and any necessary additional steps.
Biopsy Procedure
Your surgeon will numb the area with local anesthesia. You will still be awake, but you will not feel any pain during the procedure.
An eyelid biopsy usually takes between five and 20 minutes to complete. You will keep your eyes closed, and you may notice some pressure. Part or all of the lesion is removed using small forceps or a biopsy punch.
Typically, there is minimal scarring from an eyelid biopsy, and sutures may not be needed once the procedure is finished.
Next Steps
If results show the lesion is benign, most patients do not require further action. When results are abnormal, we will support you through the next steps of your treatment.
