Eyelid Lesion Removal

An eyelid lesion refers to an abnormal tissue on your eyelid’s outer or inner surface. They are typically benign (noncancerous), but a doctor should examine the area if a lesion develops.

Types of Eyelid Lesions

  • Papilloma: This is a smooth and round growth on the surface of the eyelid.
  • Seborrheic keratoses: These itchy spots are often tan, brown or black.
  • Actinic keratosis: This scaly patch results from sun exposure.
  • Xanthelasma: These are yellow patches of cholesterol.
  • Hemangiomas: These red birthmarks caused by a cluster of red blood cells fade over time.

Removal Procedure

Eyelid lesion removal can be performed in our office using local anesthesia. It typically takes around 30 minutes to complete. Your doctor will make an incision to remove the lesion, which may be closed with sutures or left to heal on its own. The lesion will be sent for a biopsy once the removal is complete.
